Advent reflections 2018
As we prepared for Christmas 2018 we had 3 advent reflections to help us on a journey from ‘Building the Peace’ to mark 100 years since the armistice towards the celebration and hopes that Christmas brings.
On Monday November 19th we watched the film “Testament of Youth” which dramatizes an autobiographical account of life before, during, and after the 1st World War written by Vera Brittain. She was brought up in this area. The book provides a powerful portrayal of the effect of war on those who remain. It is a book that expects a response.
On Thursday November 29th “Watching and waiting”. Carole led an evening of reflection on the message of advent through poetry, music and image.
On Thursday December 6th we returned to ”A Testament of Youth” through Mark Abbott’s reflections on the book in conversation with Pete Davies. Judith Gibson also shared her reflections on letters written by her grandfather from the front in the First World War.
